Before the technician arrives for installation, it is worth knowing what setting up internet entails, what conditions the flat or house must meet, how long the installation takes and whether it makes sense to use your own router or get one from the provider. The answers are simpler than they might seem.
What requirements must a flat or house meet
The basic requirement is that the address has technical connectivity available: meaning the provider's network reaches the location, whether via fibre optic or metallic cable. This is verified in advance by address before placing an order. Physical access to the flat or house on the installation day is also required, along with a suitable location to bring in the cable and install the end device: usually proximity to a power socket and a cable entry point is sufficient. In apartment buildings, consent from the owner or the building's owners' association may also be needed for running cables through common areas if the connection has not yet been brought into the building, however, this is resolved in advance, so the technician knows what to expect upon arrival.
In rental accommodation, it is advisable to discuss cable routing with the owner in advance, especially if the connection at the address has not yet been installed and a new wall penetration is required. In most flats where internet has previously worked, an existing penetration is available and can simply be reused without any work on the walls.
How the installation itself proceeds
Installation involves three practical steps: running the cable into the flat or house, connecting the end device, and setting up the network including WiFi. During installation, the technician will verify the actual connection speed on-site, demonstrate how the device works, and advise on router placement to ensure optimal signal coverage throughout the flat or house. The entire installation usually takes up to an hour, slightly longer in more complex cases (longer cable runs, covering multiple rooms). Once completed, you are connected immediately: no further waiting period for activation.
Your own router or ours?
After installation, the final question is addressed: how will the network be distributed further within the flat or house?
- Router in rental. We configure the router directly during installation, replace it free of charge in case of failure and ensure the firmware remains up to date. The advantage is that you do not need to look after the device at all.
- Own router. If you already have a router that meets your needs, the technician will connect and configure it during installation as part of the setup, at no extra cost. This is mainly suitable where you have specific requirements for advanced network configuration.
Both variants work equally reliably: the choice depends entirely on whether you want to take care of the equipment in the future or leave it to us. If you are unsure which is better for your household, simply ask when checking availability. We will advise based on the number of rooms, devices connected to the network and how much you wish to configure the router yourself.
What is addressed directly during installation
The technician usually resolves minor details that a layperson may not anticipate in advance, such as the cable route to minimise visual intrusion into the interior, the router placement relative to room layout and where signal strength is most needed. For larger flats or houses, it pays to specify in advance where the main workspace or living room is located, so the router can be positioned as close as possible for even WiFi coverage. If a house has multiple floors or thick walls, the technician may recommend an additional access point, however, this is always subject to agreement and not an automatic part of the installation.
When these details are addressed
It is best to discuss these immediately when checking availability, not on the day of installation. This ensures we know what to expect and the installation proceeds without unnecessary complications, which is, incidentally, one of the reasons why setting up within 4 days actually works. If you are additionally dealing with technical details due to relocationit is worth discussing them before moving in so that installation can take place on the very first days at the new address.
Summary
To set up home internet, you only need technical availability at the address, access for the technician, and a decision on whether to use our router or your own. The rest, cabling, configuration, speed verification, is handled by the technician during installation, usually within an hour.
